This issue is entirely too long. 25 shows highlighted. Wow.
The big news I teased last week? I’ve taken the next step in curation and have created 20 “collections” of completed audio fiction, each based around a central theme, like love stories, murder mysteries, and post-apocalyptic stories. But I don’t do many things normal, so of course I called those collections Love Is In (On) The Air, Murder On The Audio Express, and We Had A Good Run, People. I gotta be me.
Next week, I’ll figure out how to better share these. Today, I’m highlighting two collections:
- BIPOC Creators/Talent Showcase — 27 audio fiction shows made by creators who happen to be BIPOC-Black, Indigenous, and people of color-and are representative of the global majority, yet are under-represented in audio fiction.
- For Kids Of All Ages — 24 children’s tales, YA stories, and other shows designed for kids, tweens, teenagers, or those of us who just can’t-or refuse to-grow up.
As is true for all the listings in our directory, every show in a collection has reached either a season finale or a series conclusion so you can listen with confidence. I’m slowly going through the 750+ listings I’ve curated over the last year a half, adding to the existing 20 Collections and creating more as necessary. I’m going to work out a way to let you “subscribe” to one or more Collections so you get notified when new shows are added. I haven’t sussed out how just yet, so I appreciate your patience.
Two more quick things: I have my 2nd round of surgery tomorrow to either remove the stone or the organ. I’m very, very done with these damned things. 🚀💥😱 • Derelict — Dramatized immersive far-future scifi series from J. Barton Mitchell & Night Rocket Productions. Wow. This show is… intense. Maybe don’t listen if you’ve got a fear of water, yeah? But for the rest of us, this is non-stop action that keeps delivering, with a rich soundscape that will leave you breathless. Season two is currently releasing, but you should take the 10 hours to enjoy the 10 episodes of season one while you wait for the second season to finish.
🌃🎰🍸 • Bronzeville — Dramatized historical fiction thriller from Josh Olsen. Centers on African American stories, stars Laurence Fishburne, Larenz Tate, and Tika Sumpter, and is written by Academy Award(r) and BAFTA nominee Josh Olson. An incredibly well-produced show with top-notch talent takes you right there in the middle of the action. It’s a complete show with two seasons. The 17 episodes will last you about 11 hours.)
